2017 Summer Honors English Curriculum

Senior – Honors English – Mrs. McCormick

The summer reading assignments consist of THREE papers.  You will earn up to 400 points for your summer reading assignments.  The summer reading assignments are due Thursday, August 17,2017 by 3:30 pm.  NO LATE WORK IS ACCEPTED.

Juniors – Honors American Literature — Mrs. Hicks

You will earn up to 150 points for your Summer Reading. In this class, that is a LOT of points. If you don’t do your Summer Reading, you will start the year with a large 0 and have a failing grade in the class for quite a while. You will NOT be able to change your schedule to compensate for not doing Summer Reading. You may also jeopardize your chances of earning an A for the semester. THE LAST DAY I WILL ACCEPT ANY SUMMER READING FOR A GRADE WILL BE AUGUST 25, 2017. A late work deduction will be applied at the rate of 10% per day for each part that is late every day after August 17 (the first day of school). After that date, your Summer Reading grade will stay a 0.

Sophomores – Honors English II — Mr. Boeker

Students entering Honors English 2 must complete a summer book assignment as a condition for remaining in the class.  Students will choose one out of four books to read then write a response, a minimum of 500 words, to your book.  Detailed descriptions of the books follow.  These instructions are also posted on Mr. Boeker’s Honors English 2 web page.  Several options are listed below, but you may also use your own ideas.  This is due Friday, August 18, 2016.  Your assignment needs to be printed and brought to class.  Emailed book reports or reports shared through Google docs will not be accepted.

Freshmen – Honors English I — Mrs. Lange

Over the summer, you will need to read one novel and write a response essay. This assignment is a requirement to stay in Honors English I and must be completed by August 23, 2017.  Choose one — The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom or Tuesdays with Morrie​ by Mitch Albom

2017 AP History Summer Curriculum

Students are required to complete the reading and writing assignments by Friday, August 18, 2017.  Failure to do this will result in 0 out of 150 points assigned to their grade.

2017-2018 AP World History Summer Assignment — Mr. Sliger

Due to the breadth of required AP curriculum content, and the fact that sophomores have had no prior exposure to AP courses, students signing up for AP World will be responsible for knowing major events in world history. This will ensure that students have a general foundation of core knowledge. This assignment is worth 100 points and is due Friday, August 18, 2017.
