The Class of 2020 is unique in every possible way. While it certainly didn’t take a global pandemic for us to recognize this, it is during this crisis that we have learned so much about their persistence, kindness, compassion, resolve, dedication and commitment to their peers and our school community. As it became increasingly clear we would not be returning for on-campus classes for the 2019-20 school-year, our focus shifted to the Class of 2020 celebrations that traditionally occur during the month of May. In early May, MTHS sent out a communication indicating the postponement of the graduation ceremony until July 25th. We learned very clearly through our conversations that our seniors are hopeful about everything that lies ahead including their graduation ceremony. It is through the lens of hope we announce the following schedule modifications as we look forward to celebrating the Class of 2020 at this year’s graduation ceremony on Saturday morning, July 25th, at 10:00 am.

Currently we are moving forward with two possible scenarios for July 25th at 10:00am.

  1. A formal ceremony with graduates seated on the football field, families and guests in the stadium seating. It is still unclear if we can allow guests to attend and if we are, how many will be allowed. When there is more guidance from our governing agencies we will communicate final plans.
  2. A personalized graduation will be offered if a formal ceremony is not possible. A personalized graduation would entail each student coming to the high school in their cap and gown with immediate family. The ceremony would take place in the auditorium. We would have one family at a time enter the stage area, the student’s name would be read, the student would receive his/her diploma, and pictures would be taken. If we need to conduct these personalized graduation ceremonies, they would begin at 10:00 am on July 25th and would continue throughout the day. Students would be given a time slot for their graduation based on the first letter of their last name.

* A form will be sent out the week of June 22nd to students so they may indicate if they will be participating in a graduation ceremony.

*If there is inclement weather we will follow the personalized graduation plan.

We are also very aware that July 25th will not work for every student, especially those choosing to serve our country in the military. We will work with any student who would like to have a private ceremony. To set up a private graduation ceremony, please call Principal Pete List at 367-4151 ext. 520. We feel terrible for our seniors that their year was not able to end as they have hoped, but have great confidence in what they can accomplish as they leave MTHS.
