Posted: Thursday, April 23, 2015 at 9:42 AM BOURBONNAIS, Ill. — On Saturday, April 18, Olivet Nazarene University junior Jacob Armbrust (Metamora, Ill.) made history with his 63.17 meters (207 feet, three inches) throw in the discus at the Augustana College (Ill.) Meet of Champions. His throw earned him NAIA and CCAC Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week honors. Armbrust gained recognition for the second time this season after breaking his own school record in the discus by nearly six meters. His throw qualified him for the USA Outdoor Championships in June, and is the longest ever by a collegiate athlete in the state of Illinois. The effort ranks him third in the nation and ranked him second in a field of 43 competitors at the Saturday meet. In addition, his 63-plus meter throw ranks him No. 12 in the world, No. 2 in all college divisions (NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA), and No. 1 in the NAIA. He leads all NAIA in Power Ranking Points (every event leader), and this throw was the second longest throw in the history of the NAIA. In addition, Armbrust — who is ranked No. 3 in the NAIA — won the shot put event at the meet, outdistancing 37 other challengers with a throw of 16.85 meters (55-3.5). He also collected national recognition in week two (April 1). Armbrust says, “I just want to continue to train hard and give everything I have every day. If I continue to work hard and stay hungry, the future is full of great possibilities.” article taken from Olivet Nazarene website Metamora Wins ABC Meet Under the LightsThe birds won the 6 team ABC meet under the lights and in the occasional rain.
