Armbrust Unleashes Historic Discus Throw
2015 Jacob Armbrust (3)

Junior Jacob Armbrust is currently ranked No. 12 in the world in the discus with his throw of 63.17 meters.

Jacob Armbrust makes history with discus throw, earns NAIA and CCAC track and field honors

Author: Nick Birkey
Posted: Thursday, April 23, 2015 at 9:42 AM

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. — On Saturday, April 18, Olivet Nazarene University junior Jacob Armbrust (Metamora, Ill.) made history with his 63.17 meters (207 feet, three inches) throw in the discus at the Augustana College (Ill.) Meet of Champions. His throw earned him NAIA and CCAC Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week honors.

Armbrust gained recognition for the second time this season after breaking his own school record in the discus by nearly six meters. His throw qualified him for the USA Outdoor Championships in June, and is the longest ever by a collegiate athlete in the state of Illinois. The effort ranks him third in the nation and ranked him second in a field of 43 competitors at the Saturday meet.

In addition, his 63-plus meter throw ranks him No. 12 in the world, No. 2 in all college divisions (NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA), and No. 1 in the NAIA. He leads all NAIA in Power Ranking Points (every event leader), and this throw was the second longest throw in the history of the NAIA.

In addition, Armbrust — who is ranked No. 3 in the NAIA — won the shot put event at the meet, outdistancing 37 other challengers with a throw of 16.85 meters (55-3.5). He also collected national recognition in week two (April 1).

Armbrust says, “I just want to continue to train hard and give everything I have every day. If I continue to work hard and stay hungry, the future is full of great possibilities.”

Jacob Armbrust of men’s track and field earns NAIA and CCAC Athlete of the Week honors for record-setting performance

Author: Nick Birkey
Posted: Thursday, April 02, 2015 at 8:37 AM

KANSAS CITY, Mo. Jacob Armbrust (junior, Metamora, Ill.) of Olivet Nazarene University has been named the NAIA National Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week, the National office announced Wednesday, April 1. He was selected based on his performances from March 23 to 29. This is the second award of the 2015 outdoor track and field season.

At the Viking Olympics on March 28, Armbrust broke the school record in the discus with a 56.10-meter (184-1) throw. His toss also set a new meet record that had stood since 1976. In the shot put, he also set a meet record with a mark of 16.82 meters (55-2 ¼). Both wins were against 40-plus athletes, and both finishes are tops in the NAIA this season. He claims his first career National Field Athlete of the Week award.

Armbrust was also named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men’s Field Athlete of the Week for his two record-setting performances this past weekend. It is the first such honor of his career. The award was announced by the league office on Thursday, April 2.
