Course Selection Instructions

Seniors – FASFA NOW and Illinois Graduation Requirement

ATTENTION SENIORS

FAFSA:  All families must fill out the FAFSA form this year. It is an Illinois graduation requirement.

  1. Starting Oct 1 – Have parent/guardian fill out FAFSA https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa

(required for most college financial aid)

    1. Must apply for FSA ID beforehand (at least 48 hours)  (fsaid.ed.gov)

Other steps to be taking if you are going to college next year:

  1. Choosing a college:

    1. Need help finding the right college for you – visit https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/

    2. Watch virtual tours of colleges online. Many have tours on their websites.

    3. Schedule college visits on campus through the university.

    4. If campus tours are not available, visit on your own by walking around campus.

  2. Start applying to colleges NOW!

    1. Apply online on the university website.

    2. Common App is available (apply to multiple colleges) www.commonapp.org

    3. Transcripts requests:

      1. Use Parchment.com

      2. If taken dual-credit, will need ICC transcript

    4. Many early admission deadlines are Nov 1-Dec 15.  Apply early.

  3. Start looking for scholarships. See Guidance website or talk with your counselor.

If you wish to opt out of this graduation requirement, please complete the FAFSA Nonparticipation Form and submit it to the Guidance Department.  Please note, that if either the FAFSA or waiver are not completed by the anticipated graduation date, the school will withhold your diploma.
