Immunization Requirements for Illinois
Illinois law requires that ALL students entering school at ALL grade levels show proof of vaccines; including a new requirement for students entering 12th grade Many MTHS Freshman and Senior students are not yet in compliance. Freshman students need a current physical and immunization record on file. Senior students need an immunization record on file showing proof of vaccinations.

Students must provide proof of vaccines to the District by 10/15/2015. Failure to do so will result in the student’s exclusion from school.

Health and Flu Information

As you know, flu can easily be spread from person to person. Students, staff, and their families must take personal responsibility to reduce the spread of the virus by practicing the following steps.

• PRACTICE good hand hygiene. Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.

• COVER your cough. The main way flu spreads is from person to person in the droplets produced by coughs and sneezes, so it is important to cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. If you do not have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your elbow/sleeve, not into your hands.

• STAY home if you are sick. You should stay home at least 24 hours after you no longer have a fever or do not have signs of a fever, without using fever-reducing drugs.

• KNOW the signs and symptoms of the flu. Symptoms of the H1N1 virus are similar to human flu and include fever (100 degrees Fahrenheit or greater), cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills, and feeling very tired. Some people may vomit or have diarrhea.

MTHS is working with the Woodford County Health Department and the Illinois Department of Public Health to monitor flu conditions and make decisions about the best steps to take concerning schools. We will keep you updated with new information as it becomes available.
