Jazz Ensemble

The Metamora Jazz ensemble is under the direction of Christopher Render.  The primary focus of the ensemble is the exploration and development of the genres of Jazz and its history. From the Chicagoland through Central Illinois, the Metamora Jazz Ensemble has performed in clinics and festivals all throughout the Illinois high school and collegiate area while earning awards in performance excellence.

Metamora also has an annual honor of hosting the Northern Illinois University Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Ron Carter in sectionals, concerts, and clinic/master classes with special guests like Conrad Herwig, Art Davis, Jiggs Whigham, Jimmy Heath, Lew Soloff, Ernie Watts, and Lew Tabackin to name a few.

The Metamora Jazz ensemble is one of many ensembles offered through the comprehensive Music Program at Metamora Township High School. The Music Program at MTHS is proud of the involvement of over half the 976-student population in music classes every day. Classes and ensembles consist of two Concert Bands, Marching Band, Jazz Ensemble, two Steel Drum Bands, Guitar, Piano, Hand Drumming, Five Choirs, and Music Theory. The Jazz Ensemble rehearses usually 2-3 times a week for 45 minutes before school. This time includes sectionals.
