About Me

Hello, I’m Annie Hicks; welcome! Please click on the links below access my class pages.

I am married to Mr. Kevin Hicks, who teaches World History and Human Relations here at Metamora. I currently teach Honors American Literature, Humanities I and II, and Honors Humanities, a dual-credit ICC class.

I was a 1987 graduate of Richwoods High School and attended DePauw University for my B.A. I majored in Classics Civilization and minored in European History, also attending school in Athens, Greece for part of my Senior year. I did my teaching certification at Illinois State University, where I picked up my remaining English hours. From 2001 – 2004, I owned and operated my own technical writing business and worked as a contractor at Caterpillar. During that time I also taught English part time at Midstate College. I have earned a Masters degree in Educational Administration. I recently finished my certification in Library Science and plan to finish the Masters Degree in the next few years. Someday I would love to finish a PhD in either Art History or Classics.

Although I did not always intend to teach at the high school level, I love the challenge presented by high school age students. I find them to be fun, engaging, and curious about the world! I hope their experiences in my classes will help them to solidify their English skills and to apply the lessons of literature to their lives – there is so much to learn!
