Student Council is excited to invite all MTHS students to the 2025 Homecoming Dance, Saturday, October 4 from 7-10 pm at the MTHS South Gym. This year's Glow in the Dark theme will not disappoint! The Bakery Bar will be serving delicious treats for purchase, so save room for dessert! See everyone there!
Student Council wants to thank all staff and students for their generous donations to the Care and Crust fundraiser to bring joy to children at the Children's Hospital of Illinois.
Congratulations to the boys golf team on their 2nd place finish in the Redbird Classic! The Redbirds finished the 2-day tournament losing to Morton by 1 stroke. Jacob Cooper finished the event in 6th place while Jordan Kerr finished in 7th place. Great day to be a Redbird!

Dual Credit II/ Honors Spanish IV students did a "chocolate tasting", trying different types of chocolate as they learn about where chocolate comes from, the history of the cacao bean, and sustainable chocolate companies.
Wags of Wisdom with Crosby This week in English I, students learned from The Cask of Amontillado that arrogance can be a destructive force in relationships and that trusting people is important, but it can also make us vulnerable. Crosby’s Wag of Wisdom: “Be confident, but stay humble. Trust others, but use wisdom.” Just like a loyal dog, healthy friendships are built on respect, honesty, and care—not pride or trickery.

The FAFSA must be filed to be considered for state and federal financial aid programs (this includes student loans and grants). This presentation is highly recommended for seniors, juniors and parents, but anyone is welcome.
Remember seniors can start filing the FAFSA October 2025 and completing the FAFSA is a graduation requirement.

It seems like the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society is having some technical difficulties. We hope they straighten this out before their show in ONE WEEK!
The Play That Goes Wrong will be performed at the Kenneth H. Maurer Performing Arts Center from September 18-21, 2025, with a new added Thursday performance starting at 7:30 PM, 7 PM on 19th and 20th, and 2 PM on 21st. D & D Club kicked off the year after school today. They formed groups and began creating characters!

Students connected this week’s wisdom to their current class project—creating “Crash Courses” on major events of the 1920s to prepare for reading the Great American Novel, The Great Gatsby. Just like in literature, we must look deeper. Understanding the Jazz Age and F. Scott Fitzgerald’s background helps us truly appreciate the story beyond its surface.
And just like with people, it’s important to look beyond first impressions. Everyone has a story, and when we take the time to learn it, we can understand and appreciate them more fully.
