At this time of Thanksgiving, we want to take a minute and give thanks to our students, parents, community members, and teachers. We are so fortunate to live in a supportive community with excellent educators. This year, MTHS ranked in the top 2.15% of all high schools in the state of Illinois per the 2023-2024 Illinois School Report Card. MTHS was 15th out of 697 high schools! Did YOU hear the news?! Our Kiwanis Club brought in a pretty big surprise today to our Unified Redbirds! The surprise...a $12,500 donation to our program from the first annual Boys of Fall event. Last Wednesday, the Madrigal Singers were invited to the WTVP Station to record for their Christmas program that will air on December 5th. Today, the Madrigal Singers travelled to Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria to record for the WEEK "Songs of the Season" program that will air on December 24th and 25th. Keep an eye out for the Redbirds on your local news stations!
Students in Honors dual-credit senior English submitted their 8-10 page argumentative essay today. As you can see, they were exhausted. Don't feel too sorry for them, though. They did get cake to celebrate!

Who says Venn diagrams have to be boring? Honors Spanish II students compared the moon and the earth with hula hoops today! Lots of speaking and engaging!
Honors Spanish IV students prepared presentations about "Las Fallas" festival in Valencia, Spain! Students experienced making paper maché art
and the fire tradition! Learning is best through authentic interaction!
Thank you to CAT and the Edwards facility demonstration put on by SKILLSUSA. Local construction unions and other trade partners had stations set up for a hands-on type field trip for our students.
Students are learning about natural resources & had the opportunity to participate in the We Share Solar program. Students learned how to build a working solar suitcase that includes a solar panel. The suitcase will be sent to a refugee camp in Africa. The suitcase will provide electricity for the school both inside and outside of the building. Allowing students to study, charge electronics, and for nighttime safety.
Students interested in learning how to earn free post-secondary education through the NROTC awards & scholarships can participate in their webinar scheduled Nov. 9th from 4-8pm.
